What Deephaul Ravine is

Deephaul Ravine is the newest battleground and the ninth map in the Battleground Blitz pool. It is not a node map and not a flag map. It is a hybrid: two mine carts to escort and one central crystal to carry, both feeding a single score, set in the Ringing Deeps. It runs 10v10 as a random battleground and 8v8 in Blitz, and the first team to 1500 points wins.

The two objectives

Points come from two places at once, which is what makes the map read differently from anything else in the pool.

  • Two mine carts spawn on opposite sides and travel along tracks. Controlling a cart earns points as it moves and a burst when it reaches its destination, the same escort logic as a payload.
  • The Deephaul Crystal spawns in the centre. A player picks it up and carries it to a capture point on the high ground on either side to score, the same carry logic as a flag.

So the map runs a payload race and a flag carry in parallel, and a team has to decide every moment which of the two is the better use of its numbers.

How to think about it

The central crystal is the contested prize because it sits where both teams meet, and the carts are the steady income that runs while the crystal fight happens. The consistent shape of a winning game is to win the middle for the crystal, then convert that map control into cart progress rather than chasing both with split forces.

The trap, as on every objective map, is fighting for the sake of fighting. Kills do not score here; delivered carts and captured crystals do. A team that wins every skirmish in the centre but never commits a carrier or an escort loses to a team that treats the fights as a means to the objectives.

Reading the two fronts

Because the crystal and the carts run at the same time, the map punishes a team that commits everyone to one and ignores the other. The read is which front the enemy has overloaded.

  • If the enemy collapses onto the crystal, a cart is moving somewhere with light resistance. Peel two players off the centre to take it rather than adding a fifth body to a fight already being won or lost.
  • If the enemy splits to escort a cart, the centre is winnable with the numbers you have, and the crystal is the faster points.
  • Do not carry the crystal into a fight you are losing. A dropped crystal returns to the centre for a contested pickup, so a carrier who dies mid-fight hands it straight back.

Roles

The crystal carrier needs the same profile as a flag carrier: mobility and defensives that hold up without a pocket healer. The cart escorts need to survive on a moving objective while the enemy contests it. The specialisations that do these jobs well in Blitz right now are the shortlist:

The carts and the crystal want different players. A durable escort who can sit a contested cart is not the same pick as a mobile carrier who can survive a run across the middle, so a team that assigns both deliberately beats one that lets whoever is nearest grab whatever is up.

What Blitz changes here

Deephaul Ravine is in the Blitz pool, confirmed by Battleground Blitzest. It plays 8v8 in Blitz against 10v10 on the random battleground.

The mount speed buff runs at 75% here, its value on every map except Arathi Basin and Deepwind Gorge, where Swift Pursuit reaches 100%. The in-game tooltip showing a flat 100% is misleading on this map.

Patch 12.1 on this map

The season's battleground changes apply here as everywhere: healing in battlegrounds is down 20%, slows were cut a tier, and knockbacks no longer work on feared or disoriented targets. On a map built around carrying a crystal and escorting carts, the healing cut matters most, since a carrier is harder to keep alive than last season.

The rules shared across all nine Blitz maps are in our Battleground Blitz guide.

FAQ

What kind of battleground is Deephaul Ravine?

A hybrid, not a node or flag map. Two mine carts spawn on opposite sides and travel along tracks like a payload, and a Deephaul Crystal spawns in the centre and is carried to a high-ground capture point like a flag. Both feed one score, and the first team to 1500 points wins. It is the newest battleground and the ninth map in the Battleground Blitz pool.

How do you score in Deephaul Ravine?

Two ways at once. Controlling a mine cart earns points as it travels and a burst when it reaches its destination, and carrying the central crystal to a capture point on the high ground scores it. Kills do not score, so a team that wins every fight but never commits a carrier or an escort loses to one that plays the objectives.

What is the winning strategy?

Win the middle for the crystal, then convert that map control into cart progress rather than splitting to chase both. Read which front the enemy has overloaded: if they collapse on the crystal, a cart is moving with light resistance, and if they split to escort a cart, the centre is winnable with the numbers you have.

What happens if the crystal carrier dies?

The crystal returns to the centre for a contested pickup, so carrying it into a fight you are losing hands it straight back. Treat the carrier like a flag carrier: commit them when the run is supported, not into a fight that is already going the wrong way.

What does Battleground Blitz change on Deephaul Ravine?

It plays 8v8 against 10v10 on the random battleground. The mount speed buff runs at 75% here, its value on every map except Arathi Basin and Deepwind Gorge; the tooltip showing a flat 100% is misleading. The patch 12.1 battleground changes also apply: 20% less healing, weaker slows, and no knockbacks on feared or disoriented targets.
