Patch Notes
October 6 Hotfixes: Three PvP Talents Shipped Above Their Notes
The October 6 class tuning batch is live, and three PvP talents went in above their announced figures: Dire Beast: Hawk at 500% with a change from Physical to Nature damage, Frost Bomb at 150% and Electrocute at 100%. The rest of the PvP list and the whole class tuning list shipped unchanged, alongside twelve Ula'tek nerfs on Heroic and Mythic.

What went live with October 6 maintenance
The October 6 class tuning batch is live, and three of its PvP talents landed on larger numbers than the figures Blizzard published when the batch was announced. Dire Beast: Hawk went in at 500% rather than 200% and changed damage school, Frost Bomb at 150% rather than 25%, and Electrocute at 100% rather than 50%. The announcement thread still carries the smaller figures, so the hotfix notes are the ones to go by for all three.
The rest of the Player versus Player list shipped exactly as announced, all 51 entries of it, and so did the separate class tuning list and its 17 entries. The genuinely new material in the same dated section is a large set of The Venomous Abyss nerfs aimed at Ula'tek on Heroic and Mythic, which touch health pools, raid damage and one soak requirement.
Full detail is in Blizzard's hotfix article, Hotfixes: October 6, 2026.
Three PvP talents landed above their announced values
Each of the three is a talent the pass was lifting off the floor, and in each case the live multiplier is the larger one. The announced column is the figure from the October 6 announcement; the live column is what the hotfix notes record.
| Talent | Specialization | Announced | Live on October 6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dire Beast: Hawk | Damage increased by 200% | Damage increased by 500%, and now deals Nature damage (was Physical) | |
| Frost Bomb | Damage increased by 25% | Damage increased by 150% | |
| Electrocute | Damage increased by 50%, rolling periodic | Damage increased by 100%, rolling periodic |
The Dire Beast: Hawk entry is the one with a second change inside it. A move from Physical to Nature damage takes the hawk out from behind armor, which is where most of a plate target's passive mitigation sits, and puts it behind magic-school reduction instead. A 500% increase against unarmored casters and the same increase against plate are therefore not the same change, and the talent is strongest exactly where it was weakest before.
Electrocute is the quietest of the three and the broadest: it is a general Shaman PvP talent rather than a specialization one, so all three Shaman specs carry the doubled figure. Frost Bomb's jump from a 25% increase to a 150% one is the largest proportional correction of the three, and it sits on a talent whose dispel-punish clause already gave
Frost Mage a reason to take it.

Dungeons and Raids
The Venomous Abyss: Ula'tek
General
- Spectral Coils damage reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
- Toxic Burn damage reduced by 30% on Mythic difficulty.
- The number of waves that emit from a tail during Caustic Waves reduced to 3 on Mythic difficulty (was 7).
Stage 2
- Warden's Protection damage reduced by 80%.
- Reduced the number of ground targets during Virulent Spit.
- Grasping Fangs periodic damage reduced by 30% on Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
- Blight Vein duration reduced to 4 seconds on Heroic and Mythic difficulties (was 6 seconds).
Stage 3
- Blightscale Shrieker health reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
- Blightscale Clutch health reduced by 20% on Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
- Slithering Clutch health reduced by 20% on Mythic difficulties.
- Circling Prey raid damage reduced by 30% on Heroic and Mythic difficulties.
- Adjusted the Drain Rate of Serpent's Bite so you no longer need more than 3 people to soak regardless of raid size.
Mythic is where most of this concentrates. The wave count on Caustic Waves drops from seven per tail to three, which cuts the number of dodges the mechanic asks for rather than its damage, and Warden's Protection losing 80% of its damage is the single largest number in the batch. The Serpent's Bite change is the one that alters a composition requirement instead of a health bar: a three-player soak cap that no longer scales with raid size removes the roster problem smaller Mythic groups had on that stage. Progression context for the fight is in the world first Mythic Ula'tek report.
How the live values land on Season 2
The three corrections all point the same way, and they land on talents that were marginal picks rather than staples, which is consistent with a pass aimed at widening talent rows instead of re-ranking specs. What they change is which rows are worth a second look now that the real numbers are known.
Beast Mastery gains the most from the correction. A 500% damage increase is two and a half times the announced one, and the damage school moving to Nature means the hawk no longer loses a share of every hit to armor. Against a plate-wearing target the two changes compound, and the talent is now a real area-denial tool on a 30-second cooldown rather than a filler pick.
Frost gets the largest proportional change in the batch. Frost Bomb at 150% instead of 25% turns a small top-up into a genuine burst window, and it keeps the clause that hands back a Brain Freeze charge when the bomb is dispelled early, so the talent punishes both answers to it. Paired with the fourth second of Icy Feet immunity, Frost comes out of this pass with more pressure and more mobility protection at once.
Electrocute at 100% is the change that touches most players. It sits in the general
Shaman PvP rows rather than a specialization block, so
Elemental,
Enhancement and
Restoration all pick it up, and as a rolling periodic it rewards reapplying on a target that is being pressured rather than spreading it around.
Where those specs sat going into maintenance is the baseline the next week of games can be read against.
PvP tier list
rating first · top segment 2425+ · 548 playersMetaThe tank Focused Assault rework is still the largest single item in the pass, and it shipped exactly as announced. All four of its dimensions moved at once: one more stack, a duration that nearly doubles, a cooldown four seconds shorter than the new duration, and half again the range. A debuff lasting 10 seconds on a 15-second cooldown can be held on a target continuously, where 6 seconds on a 20-second cooldown could not, and 15 yards instead of 10 means a tank no longer has to stand on the target to refresh it. Rated battlegrounds and Battleground Blitz feel that first, because a tank is a standard part of those compositions.
PvP tier list
rating first · top segment 1850+ · 6,251 playersMetaThe healer packages also shipped unchanged, and nothing in the pass takes healing away.
Restoration Shaman carries the heaviest one, with Earth Shield healing up 15% in PvP combat, its Earthen Harmony damage reduction moving from 5% to 8%, the missing-health scaling from 150% to 200%, and the Call of Al'Akir cooldown penalty cut by a third.
Mistweaver gains two more simultaneous Healing Spheres at double healing, and
Restoration Druid gets 30% more Mass Blooming healing that now scales with Wild Growth talents it previously ignored.
The class tuning list is the other half of the picture, and almost all of it stops at the arena door. Devourer's six entries, Subtlety's three Trickster entries and both Enhancement entries carry "Does not affect PvP combat", and Enveloping Mist carries "Does not apply in PvP combat". Three entries carry no such tag and apply everywhere: Unholy's Blightfall halving, which is a real loss of burst in rated play as well as in dungeons, and both
Brewmaster durability changes.
Mistweaver's Invigorating Mists increase is untagged while the Enveloping Mist entry beside it is tagged, so only the first reaches arena.
What to check before your first game
If you play
Beast Mastery Hunter,
Frost Mage or any
Shaman specialization, re-check the three corrected talents in your PvP rows before queuing: all three were announced at figures small enough to dismiss and went live at figures that are not. The same applies to the six tank specializations in rated battlegrounds and Blitz, where a Focused Assault talent that was marginal at 6 seconds and 10 yards is a different proposition at 10 seconds and 15 yards.
Healers on Restoration Shaman, Mistweaver and Restoration Druid should expect their own output to move without changing anything, and can compare where their spec sits against the rest of the field on the EU 3v3 meta page or the US 3v3 meta page once a few days of games have been played. Mode background is in the Solo Shuffle guide and the Battleground Blitz guide.
For what shipped in the week before this batch, see the October 1 hotfixes. The next scheduled content step is the 12.1.5 content update on October 13.
FAQ
Did the October 6 class tuning go live exactly as announced?
Almost. All 17 class tuning entries shipped word for word, and 48 of the 51 Player versus Player entries did. Three PvP talents went live on larger numbers than the announcement carried: Dire Beast: Hawk at 500% rather than 200%, Frost Bomb at 150% rather than 25%, and Electrocute at 100% rather than 50%. Dire Beast: Hawk also went live dealing Nature damage where it previously dealt Physical.
Which figures should I trust for Dire Beast: Hawk?
The hotfix notes. Dire Beast: Hawk went live with its damage increased by 500% and now deals Nature damage where it previously dealt Physical. The announcement that preceded maintenance lists a 200% increase and no school change, so go by the hotfix entry.
Why does the Dire Beast: Hawk damage school matter?
Armor reduces Physical damage and does not reduce Nature damage. A hawk that now deals Nature damage keeps more of its output against heavily armored targets than it did before, so the 500% increase and the school change compound against plate wearers. Against an unarmored caster the school change makes little difference and the damage increase is the whole of it.
What changed for tank specializations in PvP?
The six PvP talents that apply Focused Assault - Murderous Intent, Tormentor, Alpha Challenge, Admonishment, Inquisition and Oppressor - all gained the same four improvements, exactly as announced: the debuff stacks to 6 times instead of 5, lasts 10 seconds instead of 6, comes off a 15-second cooldown instead of 20, and reaches 15 yards instead of 10. The 10-second duration on a 15-second cooldown is the part that matters most, because it lets a tank hold the debuff on a target continuously.
Do the Devourer and Enhancement damage buffs work in arena?
No. All six of Devourer's damage entries, both Enhancement entries and all three Subtlety Trickster entries carry Blizzard's explicit "Does not affect PvP combat" tag. Those increases apply to dungeons, raids and outdoor content only, so the rated kit for those three specs is unchanged by the class tuning list.
Which Shaman specs get the Electrocute increase?
All three. Electrocute sits in the general Shaman PvP talent rows rather than in a specialization block, so Elemental, Enhancement and Restoration all carry the live figure of a 100% damage increase. It is also now a rolling periodic rather than a fixed one, which rewards reapplying it to a target under pressure.
What was nerfed on Ula'tek?
Twelve entries across three stages, concentrated on Heroic and Mythic. Spectral Coils damage is down 20%, Toxic Burn down 30% on Mythic, and Caustic Waves emits 3 waves per tail instead of 7 on Mythic. Stage 2 loses 80% of Warden's Protection damage, 30% of Grasping Fangs periodic damage, two seconds of Blight Vein duration and some Virulent Spit ground targets. Stage 3 cuts 20% from three add health pools and 30% from Circling Prey raid damage, and Serpent's Bite now caps its soak requirement at 3 players regardless of raid size.
Was Unholy Death Knight nerfed in rated PvP as well?
Yes. The Blightfall change sits in the class tuning list rather than the PvP section, and it carries no PvP exclusion tag, so it applies everywhere: Blightfall now deals 100% of the remaining plague damage instead of 200%. Blizzard attributes the reduction to a recent bug fix that had left Blightfall hitting harder than intended.
