Darkspear Islands: Forever's 15v15 Battleground Explained
Darkspear Islands is the 15v15 battleground World of Warcraft: Forever adds off Dustwallow Marsh. Four capture points set the scoring rate, a central flag pays out to whoever already holds ground, the first team to 2000 points wins, and each faction's reputation track is the reward path.

What Darkspear Islands is, and how a match is won
Darkspear Islands is the battleground World of Warcraft: Forever adds off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh, and it fields fifteen players on each side. The Darkspear Raiders hold the Horde side and the Theramore Expeditionary Force the Alliance side, contesting four footholds across the islands, a flag in the middle of the map, and the reputation each faction pays out. Blizzard bills the format as a 15v15 capture point battleground with a flag capture, built for characters between level 30 and 60, and a match ends the moment one team reaches 2000 points. Forever launches on November 4, 2026.
That is a point race decided by territory, with a single mobile objective layered on top of it. Neither half is new to a battleground player, and the two together change how a team splits up.
Four capture points, and the rate at which points tick
Both teams accrue points at the same time, and the rate depends on how much of the map each one holds. Blizzard states it as "The more capture points your team controls, the quicker your team accrues points." There are four capture points spread across the islands, so a lead is built by territory held over time rather than by a single decisive push.
Two consequences follow from the scoring alone. A team that holds three of four points is not merely ahead, it is pulling ahead faster every second, which makes the third capture worth more than the second. And because the clock pays the side with more ground, a defence that holds a point without ever contesting a fourth is still scoring - a battleground where sitting on an objective is productive rewards players who stay put, not players who roam.
The flag in the middle, and why it suits the team already winning
A flag sits at the centre of the map. Carrying it to a base your team has captured awards more points on top of whatever the capture points are already producing.
The flag therefore pays out to territory as well. A team with no captured base has nowhere to deliver it, and a team holding several has several places to run it to and a shorter escort. So the flag is a lead extender rather than a comeback mechanic, and a team behind on points is usually better served taking a capture point back than contesting the centre. Retail's flag map is Warsong Gulch and its capture-point race is Arathi Basin; Darkspear Islands asks a team to play both at once, and to decide every few minutes which of the two it is playing.
Where to queue, and what each faction's base is for
A queue is available from a battlemaster in any major capital city, and from one in the Barrens on Kalimdor. Each faction also has a staging base of its own: Merchant Coast for the Darkspear Raiders and Northwatch for the Theramore Expeditionary Force, with Northwatch carrying a portal straight into the battle.
Those bases are not scenery. Both hold reputation vendors and battleground quests, which makes the base the place a session starts and finishes rather than somewhere visited once for the flight path. Pick up what is on offer before queueing, and hand in on the way back out.
Reputation is the reward track, and the loop runs through the quests
Each faction carries its own reputation track, and reputation thresholds unlock gear and consumables for purchase - trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons and armor pieces. Battleground quests are part of the same economy: turning in reputation quests is how Marks of Honor are earned, and reaching Exalted opens a short questline for that faction's exclusive tabard.
The loop is: queue from your base, play the battleground, turn in the quests the base offers for reputation and Marks of Honor, and spend at the reputation vendor as each threshold opens. The gear comes from standing with a faction rather than from a rating, so time in the map converts to power at a predictable rate - which is a different bargain from the one a rated ladder offers, and a more forgiving one.
Forever runs a rank track beside this reputation track, and the two pay out on different schedules. The WoW Forever PvP guide covers both tracks and where Forever's rated play sits, and the rulesets and racials guide covers the character decisions that come before either of them.
What to play in Retail battlegrounds before November 4
Forever is a separate game with its own progression, so reputation, Honor and ranks earned on Darkspear Islands belong to a Forever character and do not move a Retail rating or a Retail currency. A Retail battleground player has a month of live season left to spend, and Retail pays for it on a different axis.
Retail gates its battleground rewards behind a rating rather than a reputation bar, and the tiers it pays at are the ones the ladder's own art names:
Combatant,
Challenger,
Rival,
Duelist and
Elite. The thresholds move with the season, so take them from the live cutoffs.

Those are the ratings to aim at. Whether they are reachable in the time left is a separate question, and queue health answers it - a bracket with games going in is one a player can finish a push in, and the other kind is not.
If the Blitz window above is busy, that is the faster route to a rating in a short run-in, and the Battleground Blitz guide covers how its queue and scoring differ from a full rated group. For the group format, the standings are at the EU rated battleground leaderboard and the US rated battleground leaderboard.
Next steps
Three things to do before Forever's battleground is live. Bank the Retail rewards that are still rating-gated this season, using PvP rewards by rating to decide which bracket pays for the time available. Clear the Retail currencies that have somewhere to go, since Mark of Honor and Honor both have standing uses - Marks of Honor farming and the PvP vendors guide cover who takes them. And read Forever's own progression before launch day, because the reputation track on this battleground sits beside a rank track that works nothing like a Retail rating.

FAQ
How many players are in a Darkspear Islands match?
Fifteen on each side. Blizzard describes the map as a 15v15 capture point battleground with a flag capture, off the shores of Dustwallow Marsh.
What level do I need to queue for Darkspear Islands?
The battleground is built for characters between level 30 and 60.
How does a team win on Darkspear Islands?
The first team to reach 2000 points wins. Points accrue over time, and the rate rises with the number of capture points a team controls, so a side holding more of the map scores faster as well as scoring more.
What does the flag in the middle of the map do?
Carrying it to a base your team has already captured awards additional points. Because the delivery target has to be a captured base, a team with more ground has more places to run it to, which makes the flag better at extending a lead than at reversing one.
Where do I queue for Darkspear Islands?
From a battlemaster in any major capital city, or from one in the Barrens on Kalimdor. Each faction also has a staging base - Merchant Coast for the Darkspear Raiders and Northwatch for the Theramore Expeditionary Force - and Northwatch carries a portal into the battle.
What rewards does Darkspear Islands pay out?
Each faction has its own reputation track, and reputation thresholds unlock gear and consumables for purchase: trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons and armor pieces. Turning in reputation quests also earns Marks of Honor, and reaching Exalted opens a short questline for that faction's exclusive tabard.
Do Darkspear Islands rewards or reputation carry over to my Retail character?
No. Forever is a separate game with its own progression, so reputation, Honor and ranks earned there belong to a Forever character. Retail battleground rewards remain gated behind a Retail rating.
When can I play Darkspear Islands?
World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026.
