WoW Midnight PvP Guide: What Changed and Where to Start
Everything that changed in World of Warcraft PvP in Midnight, in one place: Addon Disarmament, Elite at 2300, shorter crowd control chains, the patch 12.1 battleground and arena changes, gearing and the Conquest cap, Training Grounds, the Slayer's Rise epic battleground, Voidstorm world PvP, this season's titles and rewards, and what comes with Season 3.

PvP in Midnight at a glance
Midnight changed World of Warcraft PvP in three ways at once. It changed how rated play works, with a lower Elite threshold, shorter crowd control chains and addons that can no longer read the fight for you. It added new ways to play: a permanent mode against bots, a new 40 vs 40 epic battleground and a world PvP zone of its own. And it kept the season structure, so Season 2 has been running since the week of August 18, 2026, with its own rewards and cutoffs. Here is what changed, where each part is explained in depth, and where to start for what you want to do.

The biggest changes to rated play
Addons no longer fight for you. Midnight introduced Addon Disarmament, and Blizzard's stated rule is that "Addons should no longer offer a competitive advantage in WoW combat". Live combat data became something addons can display but not compute on, which ended the classic arena setups that tracked enemy cooldowns, interrupts and diminishing returns automatically. Blizzard added built-in replacements for part of that job, including a Cooldown Manager for your own abilities, better raid frames and server-validated damage meters. Watching the enemy is your job again.
Elite is 2300. The rank ladder runs from Combatant I at 1000 to Elite at 2300, down from 2400 in The War Within, and a rank counts the moment you touch it in any rated bracket. Our rewards by rating guide lists what each rank unlocks, and the cutoffs guide explains the percentage-based titles above Elite.
Crowd control chains are shorter. In Season 2 a target becomes immune after two applications from the same diminishing returns category, where it used to be three, and the category takes 20 seconds to reset instead of 16. The diminishing returns guide has every category.
Patch 12.1 retuned the pace of battlegrounds and arenas. Players receive 20% less healing in battlegrounds, knockbacks no longer affect a target under Fear or Disorient, and a broad set of snares was cut by a tier. Missing a Solo Shuffle or Battleground Blitz queue now applies a one-minute account-wide penalty that stacks if you keep missing pops, and the Spoils of War bonus to Conquest after the cap is lifted rose to 50%.
Gearing in Midnight
PvP gear scales to fixed item levels inside rated play: Combatant 318, Aspirant 331 from Honor and Gladiator 344 from Conquest. Crafted gear only scales once it has been certified, and there is no PvP row in the Great Vault any more, so Conquest comes from playing. The Conquest cap starts at 1,600 and rises by 800 every week, and the two PvP trinkets together carry Gladiator's Distinction, a large primary stat bonus inside PvP. The full path is in our gearing guide, with the detail in PvP scaling explained, the Conquest cap schedule and the PvP trinkets guide. For a fresh character, Honor, Conquest and Bloody Tokens are all spent at the PvP vendors.
New ways to play
Training Grounds replaced the old Comp Stomp brawl with a permanent mode against game-controlled opponents: battlegrounds since patch 12.0.0 and 3v3 arenas since 12.1. The first win of each type each day pays bonus Honor, and a weekly questline built around it hands out PvP trinkets and jewellery. See the Training Grounds guide.
Slayer's Rise is Midnight's new 40 vs 40 epic battleground in the Voidstorm, where the Alliance fights for Vidious and the Horde for Ziadan. It joins Alterac Valley, Isle of Conquest and Wintergrasp in the random epic queue. See the Slayer's Rise guide.
World PvP has a home again in the open-world Slayer's Rise, with the neutral hub Masters' Perch, three Void Posts and faction events every 30 minutes for players in War Mode. See the Voidstorm world PvP guide and the War Mode guide.
Battleground Blitz is the rated 8v8 battleground bracket, played across nine maps including Deephaul Ravine. Each map has its own guide, starting with Arathi Basin and Deephaul Ravine.
Where you stand this season
Season 2's titles above Elite are decided by the ladder: the top 0.1% in 3v3 with 150 wins, the top 0.1% or top 8 per specialization in Solo Shuffle and Blitz with 50 wins, and the top 0.5% in rated battlegrounds. The live thresholds for your region move every day:

Below the titles, the season's collectibles are earned on the way up: the Vicious mount for winning rated matches at 1000 rating or higher, the Elite appearance piece by piece from 1000 to 2300, and the Gladiator mount for 50 wins at Elite in 3v3. Our PvP mounts guide and Gladiator mount guide cover the mounts.
What comes next
Season 3 arrives shortly after Midnight: Eclipse, the expansion's final major content update, and Blizzard has announced a new PvP Journey that will refresh PvP progression with its own rewards. Neither has a date yet; the BlizzCon 2026 PvP announcements hold everything that is known. World of Warcraft: Forever, launching November 4, is a separate game with its own Honor ranks and battlegrounds, covered in our WoW Forever PvP guide.
In the meantime, the fastest way to see how the season is actually going is the ladder itself. Solo Shuffle needs no team, and its activity shows how many games are being played in your region right now:
FAQ
What changed in PvP in WoW Midnight?
Addon Disarmament stopped addons from tracking enemy cooldowns and diminishing returns, Elite dropped to 2300, crowd control became immune after two applications instead of three, and patch 12.1 cut battleground healing by 20% and trimmed snares. Midnight also added Training Grounds, the Slayer's Rise epic battleground and world PvP in the Voidstorm.
What rating is Elite in Midnight?
2300, down from 2400 in The War Within. The ranks run from Combatant I at 1000 to Elite at 2300, and a rank counts as soon as you reach it in any rated bracket.
Do PvP addons still work in Midnight?
For display, yes; for reading the fight, no. Under Addon Disarmament addons can show combat information but cannot compute on it, so enemy cooldown, interrupt and diminishing returns trackers stopped working. Blizzard added a built-in Cooldown Manager for your own abilities.
What is the best way to start PvP in Midnight?
Training Grounds lets you learn battlegrounds and 3v3 arenas against game-controlled opponents, and its weekly questline hands out PvP trinkets. From there, Honor gear from the PvP vendors gets a character ready for Solo Shuffle or Battleground Blitz.
When does Midnight Season 3 PvP start?
No date has been announced. Season 3 arrives shortly after Midnight: Eclipse, the final major content update, and it brings a new PvP Journey that refreshes PvP progression.
