Midnight 12.1.5 Arrives October 13 With a Season 2 Refresh

When 12.1.5 goes live

Midnight's 12.1.5 content update arrives on October 13, and Blizzard's announcement pins it to the same window as the weekly reset: "October 13 (with weekly maintenance)". That means the update lands alongside a normal weekly reset rather than part-way through a week, so the raid, the new solo challenge and the story campaign all open together on maintenance day.

The update is a Season 2 update rather than the start of a new one. Blizzard files its reward changes under a "Mid-Season Refresh", and that refresh runs on its own three-week schedule that begins a week before the update itself.

What opens on October 13

Four pieces of content go live with the update.

• The Unbinding of Kith'ix, a single-boss raid against the C'Thraxxi general Kith'ix, available in Story Mode, Normal, Heroic and Mythic. Mythic takes a "flexible group of 15-25 players" rather than a fixed twenty.
• Labyrinth of Kindo'jan, a Tier 11 solo challenge set in an "ancient Amani funeral complex" of nine chambers. Blizzard's own framing is that you can "venture through a Labyrinth in a single epic session or tackle it one wing at a time", and it pays out Mythic gear, cosmetics and titles. Valeera Sanguinar joins you as a companion.
• A story campaign called "The Promise of Tomorrow". Blizzard's description has you "descend to the deepest depths of the Coiled Isle, and make a final stand against the Amani's ancient foe", which puts the campaign back on The Coiled Isle.
• Aqir Invasions, "new zone-wide public events taking place in Eversong or Zul'Aman", running for ten minutes each hour and carrying eight affixes. The zones are Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman.

The Season 2 mid-season refresh, week by week

The reward half of 12.1.5 does not all arrive at once. It unlocks across three weekly resets, and the first one is a week ahead of the update.

During realm maintenance the week of October 6, Orin Straylight begins offering "one additional Nebulous Voidcore a week to bonus roll for additional loot". The Voidcore can be bought with gold, Voidlight Marl or Veteran Mistcrests, so a player sitting on spare crest currency has somewhere to put it.

During realm maintenance the week of October 13 - the update's own week - Orin offers the quest "Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom", which starts the Ascendant Venomstone research.

That research completes the week of October 20, and the same week "the crest cap will be lifted".

Ascendant Venomstones and what they upgrade

Ascendant Venomstones are the refresh's item level ceiling-raiser. They "drop from every Heroic or Mythic raid boss, Mythic+ Keystone dungeons at +10 and above", and they work in batches: "After collecting 10 Ascendant Venomstones, use them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City to raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth, or maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapon, trinket, or necklace."

Three things follow from that wording. The item has to be fully upgraded already, so this is an end-of-upgrade-track step rather than a shortcut through it. It is limited to weapons, trinkets and necklaces rather than a whole set. And because it is a Catalyst interaction, it shares the vendor row that Season 2's other conversion currency already uses - our Catalyst charges guide covers how that side of Silvermoon works.

Blizzard published no item level figure for the increase, so the size of the jump is not yet known.

Season 2's Keystone Myth returns

Keystone Myth comes back with the update, and it is a rating achievement rather than a reward track: you "earn the 'Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2' achievement by reaching a Mythic+ rating of 3600".

It arrives with tuning attached. Blizzard states that "when Keystone Myth returns in 12.1.5, we'll also make targeted dungeon tuning adjustments to address difficulty outliers", which is a narrower promise than a full rebalance - outliers, not the pool. Which dungeons are named is not published. The seven returning Season 3 dungeons are a separate matter, and our Season 3 dungeon pool preview covers those.

Season 2 continues through 12.1.5

For anyone queuing rated content, the useful fact is what 12.1.5 is not. Blizzard files it as a Season 2 mid-season refresh, so the rated season currently running carries on past October 13 - ratings, cutoffs and the Conquest track are not being reset by this update. The announcement names no arena, Solo Shuffle, Battleground Blitz or rated battleground change, no rating adjustment, and no date for a PvP season rollover.

The next PvP season is attached to Eclipse rather than to this update: Blizzard's BlizzCon panels placed Midnight Season 3's new PvP season shortly after Eclipse launches, with no date given for either. Our BlizzCon 2026 PvP announcements write-up has what was said there.

What does change on October 13 is the calendar around your week. The update lands with weekly maintenance, so it shares a reset with your Conquest week - if you are pacing purchases against the cap, the Conquest cap schedule is the page to check that week.

What to do before October 13

The week of October 6 is the one that rewards preparation, because the extra Nebulous Voidcore is purchasable with currency you may already be holding. Spare Voidlight Marl and Veteran Mistcrests have a new sink from that reset onward, and a bonus roll a week is worth more early in a refresh than late in it.

For the Venomstones, the gating detail is the "fully upgraded" requirement: a weapon, trinket or necklace that is still mid-track cannot take one. Finishing one of those three slots before the week of October 20 is what puts you in position to use the first batch of ten.
